François Azambourg > Azambourg Studio > Aesthetics, Structure, Materials & Technique

Lampe Théâtre, 2014 Glass Bell Jar, LED ribbon, Oak base – Limited edition, Made to Order.
Inventor and designer, Azambourg combines beauty with the technique of craftsmanship, the true art of applied arts. He is oriented towards simplicity and lightness, pushing himself into the realm of objects to go against common trends. The search for lightness and economy of materials and production processes remains a consistent theme throughout Azambourg designs. From metal-foam chairs to frothy vertical explosions of optical fibers, his work, blurring borders between the delicate and industrial, has resulted in several patents and numerous prizes.
François Azambourg has recently decided to launch his own collection, the result of over 25 years of research and experimentation, challenging the frontier between aesthetics, structure, materials, and technique. This collection includes 20 objects, as diverse as the Mobile Feuilles made of real leaves hanging from piano strings, the Inga Lamp carved and turned from one wood block, the Very Nice chair with a wood structure and copper cover, and the Chauffeuse Bois-Mousse, a lounge chair made of wood and foam.
Lampe “Spoutnik” 2009
“Pack” Chair designed in 1999. An incredible piece of design, 185 sq m if polyester sailing canvas, structured by Polyester string. The chair is filled with a rigid dual component polyurethane foam. This is the first and only chair to be made entirely of this textile. The limited edition chair (only 12 were produced) come with the following construction directions:
Turn right activating button serveral times (the black turn handle on the left above), shake the chair for 20 seconds, slowly turn the chair twice. You then hold the chair by the back until the inflating begins, which lasts about a minute. After inflation, lay the chair to rest for 10 minutes to allow the inner component to set. Quite incredible.
Chaise “Capiton” 2010
