A Taste for the 20th Century at Sotheby’s Paris 25th September 2019

Today (25th September 2019) Sotheby’s have an exciting catalogue to auction. A private Parisian collection dedicated to 20th Century Design to be offered, all 230+ lots.

In a Saint-Germain-des Prés apartment, the landlord gathered some 200 works by major French artists of the 20th Century including major figures such as Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne, André Dubreuil, Jean Després and Line Vautrin alongside famous designers including Carlo Bugatti, Massimo Micheluzzi, Rick Owens, Luiz Ferreira, Philipe Hiquily and Marc Du Plantier. Beautifully coherent in depth and scope, the entire collection was assembled over a period of almost 30 years, with pieces acquired from both galleries in Saint-Germain-des-Prés and at auction.

Above left, Mark Brazier-Jones Zodiac convex mirror, copper and engraved glass lens, estimated €3,000 – €5,000. Above right, Claude de Muzac occasional table, gilt bronze, brass and petrified wood.

Rick Owens Gallic armchair from 2007, ebonized plywood estimated at €7,000 – €10,000

 and a beautiful Jean Després silver wine ice bucket, sale reserve €4,000
François-Xavier Lalanne, Bremen and Aries from the new sheep series, estimated sale value €180,000 – €220,000.

Two of Nicky’s favourite lots, a Line Vautrin Colbert Mirror from 1960 – estimate €35,000 and this supremely fluffy mouton, hold your breath, this François-Xavier Lalanne Black Sheep has an estimate of €450,00 – €500,000.

Last but not least before our imaginary purse explodes, this beautiful Fornasetti Jerusalem screen from 2005. Estimated at €3,000 – €5,000, and this tiny little vase by Massimo Micheluzzi.
