Adding your winter layer at home

A second lockdown is only days away, in the UK at least, half of Europe will soon be under the same spell. I think for the first time in years, we all have never spent so much time in our homes. To be reading this with us, means you love interiors, you’re probably always thinking how can we change that little corner up, or how can I improve this, or where can I find something that isn’t from the high street but isn’t completely unaccessible to purchase or takes months to arrive. Sometimes we just need an instant fix don’t we?

We have been talking recently on our Instagram feed (follow us here if you don’t already) about how you can make relatively instant changes by swapping furniture out from different rooms, even if it’s an armchair or cushions, throws and new piles of books perhaps added to your coffee table. Have you thought about having seasonal soft furnishings? How wonderful would it be to have light and bright linens for the spring and summer months, then hang a new winter pair of curtains as autumn arrives.

A perfect example is this project in Val d’Isere, in this guest and children’s bunk room, Nicky opted for warm red tartans for an instant winter mood. Our sheepkin elbow chair can be spotted across the hallway. If we share a hot tip with you, we suggest you hot foot it to Ralph Lauren Home in Mayfair or Fulham Road. There are plaids and tartans galore, you’ll be able to add your little bit of winter style to your own home. A few items that caught our eye are below.

Above the Eva Plaid cushion, perhaps for your bedroom or to throw onto your sofa or armchairs. Aren’t they just lovely?!

The linen is the RL Norfolk Estate Collection, and the cashmere blanket is an RL classic, also available to purchase online.

You can see we love a bit of plaid,  and spot the cable knit bed throw above for some instant layering.

Below these tartan cushions can be stored away and brought out for the winter months, the centre image shows the permanent headboard with simple white linen, the fur throw exudes winter, but the sage linen and leather trim cushions would still be perfectly suitable for the spring and summer with this headboard. In this blue guest bedroom to the left, we would swap these scatter cushions for perhaps a soft linen, the throw is double sided so we would flip it for the lighter wool side.

Some of these projects are permanent residences, it is so important to be able to make small decorative changes to change the mood throughout the seasons. With a little bit of thought, it is totally achievable. Let us help you to add some seasonal touches, just give us a call or email the studio, infact send us a message on Instagram and let’s see how we can help you.
